BRUSSELS, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- The United States urged the European Union to pressure Iran about its nuclear program by stopping two Iranian banks from operating in Europe.

U.S. 'deeply disturbed' by Iran nuclear reports PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 09 February 2008
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - An Iranian rocket launch and reports that Iran is testing an advanced centrifuge are "deeply disturbing" and strengthen the case for a third U.N. sanctions resolution against Tehran, a top U.S. official said on Friday.

Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns made the comment as he sought to spur the U.N. Security Council to approve fresh sanctions on Iran for failing to suspend uranium enrichment, which can produce fuel for nuclear weapons or power plants.

US warns Iran over nuclear centrifuges PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 08 February 2008
VIENNA (AFP) — A top US envoy warned Iran Friday that its pursuit of more advanced uranium-enriching technology would intensify the long-running international standoff over its disputed atomic drive.

"Any Iranian attempt at a more advanced centrifuge would be an escalation of Iran's ongoing non-compliance with its obligation to suspend all enrichment-related activities," the US ambassador to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Gregory Schulte, told AFP.

WASHINGTON — Iran has reportedly begun to deploy a new generation of machinery to produce nuclear fuel, a development bound to intensify a debate in Washington about whether a recent National Intelligence Estimate accurately portrayed Tehran's progress toward the ability to build a nuclear weapon.

The testing of the new machinery, centrifuges known as IR-2s, was disclosed by European diplomats and American officials and was reported over the past two days in Europe. The development is expected to be included in a report this month by the International Atomic Energy Agency about Iran's nuclear progress, and whether it has finally resolved questions about activities that have led inspectors to suspect that it may be pursuing weapons.

Thursday, 07 February 2008
PARIS (Reuters) - France said on Thursday an Iranian rocket Tehran says is intended to put a satellite into orbit is in fact a missile that cannot navigate in space, and added to concerns that the technology is aimed at making weapons.

On Monday, Iran launched what it said was a rocket designed to carry a locally-made research satellite. The know-how required to make rockets can also be used to produce missiles, but analysts have been divided over the launch's significance.

Friday, 01 February 2008
BERLIN (AP)- A U.S. diplomat urged Iran on Friday to fully disclose all past and present nuclear activities, and said a third United Nations resolution against the country was "long overdue."
