NCRI - To protest non-payment and the recent arrests, teachers nationwide announced a peaceful gathering in front of the parliament on Tuesday, May 8th and Wednesday, May 9th. On Tuesday May 8th, regime's State Security Forces brutally attacked and assaulted the peaceful demonstrators in front of the mullah's parliament in Baharestan. In this gathering two of the regime's thugs who were carrying batons started beating the protestors. A number of police and intelligence officers arrested some of the teachers and transferred them to jails. The protest continued until 5 p.m. The teachers shouted: "the imprisoned teachers must be freed." |

NCRI - Tehran, A group of nurses in Khomeini Hospital staged a protest in front of the office of hospital director on Tuesday May 15.
The self-initiated gathering of about 150 nurses protested "shortage of nursing staff, lack of job schedule, long working hours, violence against nurses, non-payment of housing subsidies and insufficient payments."

NCRI - Maraghe (Northwest of Iran-Eastern Azerbaijan province) - The students of the Free University of Maraghe on the anniversary of Azerbaijan uprisings, Tuesday May 22, called for demonstrations in various cities of Azerbaijan.
According to reports, students, in their call for rally, have urged all their fellow students and all walks of society to participate in this gathering that will start on Tuesday May 22, at 1730 on the campus of the Free University of Maraghe. |

NCRI - Iranian workers in several Iranian cities staged protests against their working conditions and non-payment of their salaries.
Workers at Behshahr Textile Factory in northern Iran have not received their salaries and benefits properly for the past 4 years. 520 workers of this factory staged a protest outside the Behshahr govenor's office on May 12. |

TEHRAN, (The New York Times) — Students at Amir Kabir University fended off club-wielding university security guards on Monday and went ahead with elections for a pro-democracy association.
Despite the successful election at Amir Kabir, it is not clear that balloting for student associations will be allowed at other universities. The associations, a powerful center of support and communication among student democracy advocates, are a constant irritant to the government, which seeks to maintain strict control over politics and cultural norms. |
