MPs take legal action to reverse Iran group ban PDF Print E-mail

Press Association - Legal action is being taken by MPs and peers to try to force the Government to remove an Iranian opposition group from a list of organisations banned under anti-terror law.

The 25 - from all parties - have lodged an appeal against the proscription of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI), claiming it is non-violent and poses no threat to security.

British parliamentarians seek to overturn Iran group ban PDF Print E-mail

Agence France Presse - The British government is to face a legal challenge to force it to remove an exiled Iranian opposition group from a list of organisations banned under anti-terrorism laws, politicians said.

In a statement, the British Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom said the continued proscription of the People's Mujahedeen Organisation of Iran (PMOI) went against a European Court of Justice ruling last December.

Press Association, February 2 - Britain was accused by a Labour peer today of "shamefully" having persuaded the European Union to defy a ruling of the European Court on the status of Iran's principal resistance group.

The Foreign Office, however, denied that Britain had put pressure on the EU in this case.
