Legal action is being taken by MPs PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 13 February 2007

The Times - Legal action is being taken by MPs and peers to try to force the Government to remove an Iranian opposition group from a list of organisations banned under anti-terrorism laws.

The 35 from all parties, who include the former Solicitor-General, Lord Archer of Sandwell, have lodged an appeal against the proscription of the People's Mujahedin of Iran (PMOI), claiming it is non-violent and poses no threat to security.

The Labour peer Lord Corbett, who is leading the campaign, accuses ministers of appeasing the Iranian regime by refusing to lift the ban. The action will force the Home Secretary to justify the ban, first imposed in 2001.
