NCRI - More than 200 Iranians, supporters of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), held a rally Thursday May 31 opposite No. 10 Downing Street in protest to the British government's policy of appeasement towards Tehran.
NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee member Hossein Abedini told the rally, "The mullahs, incapable of dealing with the growing opposition inside the country, view obtaining nuclear weapons and export of terror and fundamentalism abroad as the only means for their survival. That is why no amount of concessions and incentive packages will deter them from acquiring a nuclear bomb." He added, "The policy of appeasement and the carrot and stick approach toward the regime have been only beneficial to the regime. The regime has been receiving the carrots and the Iranian people and their resistance movement have been at the receiving end of the sticks." Mock public executions and street arrests were put on display at the rally. The protesters called on the government of Prime Minister Tony Blair to abandon the policy of appeasing the mullahs' regime. A delegation from several Anglo-Iranian associations delivered a petition by hand to No. 10.
In their petition, the Iranians called on the British government to abandon the policy of appeasement and adopt a firm policy towards the barbaric regime of Iran. They said that the people of Iran wanted democratic change in their country, but that there was a major obstacle for change in Iran, and that was the unlawful listing of the People's Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI) as terrorist. They stated that the regime is using the terror tag as a pretext to commit crimes against humanity and execute political prisoners. They urged Mr. Blair to accept the 12 December ruling of the European Court of Justice and remove the PMOI from the terrorism list prior to leaving office.
