Iranian regime arrests students PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 08 December 2007
NCRI - This evening Iran's Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) declared that has arrested several people at Tehran University seeking to start an "illegal" demonstration.

The detained students had been called by "anti-regime political groups to create unrest in the university by holding an illegal gathering." The state-run news agency, IRNA quoted the statement by MOIS.

There have been several demonstrations at Tehran universities over the last two months as students protest against the detention of three Amir Kabir University students who were given jail sentences of up to three years on charges of printing anti-government images in student papers.

The Ministry of Intelligence and Security said its agents had arrested an unspecified number of people who were to hold a demonstration outside Technical School at the university.

The arrests are taking place at the time that for the past few days Iranian students have been protesting on the occasion of Student Day.

On Tuesday, Iranian students held a protest at Tehran University, chanting slogans against Ahmadinejad and calling for the release of arrested colleagues.
