NCRI, October 10 - Interior Minister Mostafa Pour-Mohammadi appointed Brig. Gen. Amir Hayat-Moghaddam, among Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) commanders, as the governor of the oil-rich southwestern Khuzistan province.

The appointment is part of the regime's overall plan to hand over key posts to IRGC commanders and Intelligence Ministry henchmen.

The move is another measure toward stepped-up crackdown on the people of Khuzistan, particularly the Arabic speaking residents. In recent months, the province has been the scene of widespread and bloody popular uprisings.

Hayat-Moghaddam was an IRGC Navy commander before becoming the Chief of Staff of the IRGC's Ground Forces' Karbala Garrison. He was the Ground Forces' Chief of Staff from 1994 until 1998 and later became Deputy Navy HQ commander. Before being appointed as Khuzistan Governor, Hayat-Moghaddam was Deputy Coordinator for Ground Forces' HQ.

He commanded the large-scale missile strike on People's Mojahedin bases along the Iran-Iraq border on April 18, 2001. The clerical regime fired 77 Scud missiles against the bases and nearby residential areas.

The Iranian Resistance draws the attention of international human rights organizations to the stepped-up, barbaric and bloody suppression of the people of Khuzistan and urges the current United Nations General Assembly session to condemn these anti-human crimes.
