Britain welcomes agreement on new Iran nuclear resolution |

London (dpa) - Britain on Wednesday welcomed the agreement reached on a new UN Security Council resolution on Iran's nuclear enrichment programme and urged Tehran to respond positively to international pressure to suspend its nuclear activities.
Foreign Secretary David Miliband, who took part in the latest round of discussions of the UN's five veto powers and Germany in Berlin Tuesday, said the meeting was "united, constructive and determined."
The five powers, the United States, Russia, Britain, France and China, along with Germany, signed off the text at their meeting which will now be finalized at the United Nations.
Details of the content were not released, but the new resolution is expected to include fresh sanctions on individuals involved in the nuclear programme.
"We urge Iran to respond positively to the repeated requests from the international community to suspend its enrichment-related and reprocessing activities and to take advantage of the far-reaching offer of economic and scientific as well as political cooperation that would result from suspension of these activities," said Miliband in a statement in London.
"A positive choice by Iran holds the prospect of real progress for its citizens," said Miliband. "Confrontation with the international community will only further isolate Iran and hurt Iran's citizens," the statement added.
