The following is a statement by the NCRI Women's Committee on November 2:
The Women's Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran
strongly condemns recent remarks by the mullahs' President Mahmoud
Ahmadinejad, calling for the destruction of Israel and the United
States and threatening Arab and Muslim nations with terrorism.
Ahmadinejad's revolting remarks that blatantly violated all
international standards and treaties reaffirmed that acquiring nuclear
weapons and exporting fundamentalism and terrorism are on top of the
regime's agenda.
Coupled with these efforts that have been stepped up dramatically after
the election of Ahmadinejad, the clerical regime has resorted to an
unprecedented crackdown, especially against women, in order to confront
the rising wave of public discontent.
At least 84 hanging and execution verdicts, including the execution of
minors and women, issuing stoning to death verdicts, violent assault on
women in streets on the pretext of mal-veiling, banning women from
becoming restaurant managers and their presence in offices after 6:00
pm, eliminating expressions that relate to women on the internet and
segregation of taxis are among misogynous measures undertaken by the
clerical regime since Ahmadinejad's presidency.
Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, NCRI's Women's Committee Chair underscored that
while international censure of Ahmadinejad, particularly in the
Security Council, was necessary, it was by no means sufficient. The
time has come to refer this regime to the United Nations Security
Council for the adoption of concrete sanctions because of its
persistent and barbaric violation of human rights, as well as its
efforts to obtain nuclear weapons and export of fundamentalism and
terrorism to other countries in the region, particularly to Iraq.
