NCRI, November 3 – The following is a statement by the British
Parliamentary Committee for Iran Freedom, chaired by Lord Corbett of
Castle Vale, issued today:
NO TO TERROR + NUKES
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s call for Israel to be “wiped off the face of the earth” is incitement to terrorism.
The international community reacted with abhorrence and Prime Minister
Blair is commended for his description of Ahmadinejad’s incitement as
”revolting and totally unacceptable” which risked proving to the world
that the Iranian regime represents a ”global threat”.
The Iranian regime’s oppression at home, its mix of Islamic
fundamentalism and sponsorship of terrorism abroad, its widespread
interference in Iraq including the training, financing and arming of
groups responsible for the deaths of British soldiers, and its defiance
of the international community over nuclear weapons development
represents a real threat to peace and stability in the Middle East and
the wider world.
Ahmadinejad’s incitement to terrorism must provoke action from the
international community. A regime, recognised as “the most active state
sponsor of terrorism” which has set up a suicide operations garrison
within its Revolutionary Guards, cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear
weapons.
For three wasted years the EU and others have been appeasing the
mullahs. They have seen weakness in the face of nuclear
deception. This has emboldened hardliners in Tehran to seize control in
a bid to build nuclear weapons within two years.
The EU and international community must now make clear its support for
those millions of Iranians demanding freedom and democracy.
Restrictions on the activities of the Iranian Resistance abroad must be
removed, especially the proscription of the Iranian Mojahedin. As
Iran’s main opposition, the Iranian Mojahedin told the world of the
mullahs’ secret nuclear weapons programme, as well as the regime’s acts
of terrorism around the world and its human rights abuses at home.
The Iranian Mojahedin stands in the way of the regime’s bid to produce
a lethal mix of nuclear weapons and Islamic fundamentalism. It offers
the people of Iran the democracy which the mullahs most fear.
It deserves and demands our support.
