bronislaw_geremekNCRI - Bronislaw Geremek, a political icon and philanthropist lost his life in a car accident, on July 13. He was 76 at the time of his death.

Mr. Geremek was a founding member of the Solidarity trade union, who devoted all his life for freedom and democracy in Poland.

“This is very sad news, I am deeply moved,” said Polish President Lech Kaczynski. "Geremek's death is a huge loss for Poland," the Polish President added.
A minute of silence was observed as a tribute to Geremek at the inaugural Mediterranean Union Summit in Paris by leaders of 40 participating countries.

Geremek served as foreign minister between 1997 and 2000 in Poland. He was a historian who elected to the EU parliament in 2004 on the list of Solidarity, the trade union group that led the opposition in Poland.

Bronislaw Geremek was among 101 European Parliamentarians who sponsored the gathering of 70,000 Iranians against the Mullah’s religious dictatorship in Paris.

Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, extended her deepest condolence to Geremek family and the Polish Prime minister. “The loss of a prominent figure that devoted his entire life to free his country and compatriots, and played a magnificent role to establish democracy in Poland is an immense sadness”, said Maryam Rajavi.
