The suppressive battalion commander and his deputy were also in this column. Simultaneously, the mercenaries, who for the past 21 months have been engaged in psychological torture of the residents with 300 loudspeakers, increased their threats, shouts and slurs. The intention for this suppressive exercise was on one hand preparing to attack Ashraf and on the other, to launch a psychological warfare and intimidation among the residents. These actions were carried out following Monday's trip of Salehi, the foreign minister of religious fascism ruling Iran to Baghdad and delivering Khamenei's instructions to his puppet government in Baghdad to defy international demands for revoking the deadline for closure of Ashraf by year end. The situation at Camp Ashraf, where 34 innocent and defenseless Iranian dissidents in exile were killed and 350 were severely wounded by the Iraqi army on April 8 by orders of Nouri-al- Maliki at behest of the Iranian regime earlier this month, is developing into an even greater humanitarian crisis. The Iraqi army is now turning the home to 3,400 people, who are protected persons under the Fourth Geneva Convention, into a concentration camp. In an international conference in Paris on Wednesday, April 27, senior US officials from various US administrations, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates, human rights advocates, prominent US and EU politicians called for immediate intervention of the US and UN for the Iraqi forces to leave Camp Ashraf and to guarantee the protection of Camp Ashraf residents. <![CDATA[Massacre in Camp Ashraf - Iraq on April 8, 2011 - 33 defenseless civilians killed by Iraqi Army]]>

On April 2, 2001, at midnight, the suppressive Iraqi forces entered Camp Ashraf with at-least 30 armored vehicles including Hummvies and BMP-1 armored personnel carriers. They took positions in northern part of the camp. Based on specific information obtained from inside the Iranian regime, the Iranian Resistance declared that Nouri al-Maliki plans for a new round of killings in Camp Ashraf on the demands from Ali Khamenie, Iranian regime's Supreme Leader.

On Thursday 7 April, after the U.S. Defense Secretary Gates met with Nouri al-Maliki , while it was expected that U.S. forces reinforce their positions in Ashraf, surprisingly the limited U.S. forces that had a presence in the camp since April 3, left the camp.

On April 8 at 4:45 am (local time) eight battalions of Iraqi Army’s Ninth and Fifth Divisions began the attack on the defenseless resident. The massive firings using armored vehicles’ heavy machineguns and snipers continued for six hours in various parts of Camp Ashraf. In short period, a number of residents were killed.

On April 8, in the afternoon, the total number of Ashraf residents killed during the attack reached 33. Ten of them had died from the critical injuries they had received during the attack.

<![CDATA[Berlin International Congress - March 19, 2011]]>

In an international congress in Berlin, March 19, senior American officials under Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations, political figures and other personalities from European and Arab countries expressed support for people's uprising in Iran and examined prospects of change in that country. They underlined the need to adopt an appropriate policy to counter Tehran's efforts to take advantage of the uprisings in the region and spread of Islamic fundamentalism.

Mr. Leo Dautzenberg (Member of German Bundestag from 1998-2011) handed over the statements by 150 members of Bundestag on the humanitarian protection of Iranian dissidents in Camp Ashraf, removal of the PMOI from the US terror list and to stop executions in Iran.
In this event that convened on the eve of the Iranian New Year, Nowrouz, senior U.S. officials including Governor Howard Dean, former Chair of the U.S. Democratic National Committee (2005-2009); General Peter Pace, Chair of the US Army Joint Chiefs of Staff (2005-2007 ); General Hugh Shelton, Chair of the US Army Joint Chiefs of Staff (1997-2001); Sid Ahmed Ghozali, former Algerian Prime Minister; Patrick Kennedy, son of the late Senator Edward Kennedy, a member of the House Representatives (1995-2011); Mitchell B. Reiss, Director of Policy Planning of the US Department of State (2003-2005); Michael Mukasey, US Attorney General (2007-2009); and Louis Freeh, FBI Director (1993-2001), addressed the gathering. Similarly Gesine Schwan, presidential candidate for German Republic; Günter Verheugen, European Commissioner (1999-2009) and former minister of state in German Foreign Ministery; Otto Bernhardt, Finance Spokesman for Christian Democratic/Social Democratic group in Bundestag (2005-2009) and a member of Board of Directors of Konrad Adenauer Foundation; and Prof. Christoph Degenhardt, jurist and lawyer, were among other speakers of the event.
Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, the keynote speaker at this gathering, noted that the only way to end the horrific ordeals of the Iranian people and removal of the main terrorist threat in the world was regime change in its entirety and establishment of democracy in Iran. "The only leverage to achieve this goal is the third option, namely democratic change by Iranian people and their organized resistance. You can see the crystallization of this resistance in Ashraf that is a source of inspiration for young people in their struggle for freedom," she said.

While criticizing the Western governments' approach against change in Iran, Mrs. Rajavi added: Three successive governments in the United States have helped the regime to stay power by maintaining the PMOI on the blacklist. This destructive policy that has continued in past two years bore devastating consequences for the Iranian people and resistance. Repeated attacks of agents of the regime against Ashraf has caused many deaths and injuries among the Mojahedin.

"This conference is being held at an extraordinary moment in the history of the Middle East and North Africa.
The tide of freedom has engulfed the entire region. No country will be spared from this tide.
We must now ask ourselves why these uprisings have become so explosive.
What factors had until now retarded their eruption?
What course has Western policy towards this country taken?
And what are the prospects and what are our responsibilities?"
