Iran: Call to save lives of 6 political prisoners on hunger strike

NCRI – The Iranian Resistance calls on all international and human rights organizations for urgent and effective action to save the lives of six political prisoners detained in Ghezel Hesar, Gohardasht and Tabriz Central prisons that are in critical conditions due to their hunger strike.

Four Sunni Kurd political prisoners by the names of Hamed Ahmadi, Kamal Molaei, Jamshid and Jahangir Dehghani (two brothers), on death row merely for their religious beliefs, are on their 24th day of hunger strike on Saturday, July 5th. They are calling for their death sentences to be revoked and thus returned to Gohardasht Prison.

They are currently suffering from severe fatigue, severe drop in blood pressure and internal abdomen bleeding. Hamed Ahmadi and Jahangir Dehghani have fainted in the past few days.

Iranian regime authorities have kept these inmates in death row uniforms and in solitary confinement. To impose psychological torture these 4 inmates are told they are to be taken for execution. The authorities also refuse to give the inmates any other clothing, supplies or even blankets to force them to end their hunger strike.

The families of these 4 prisoners are also on hunger strike for the past 11 days, protesting the death sentences and transfer of their loved ones to Ghezel Hessar Prison where ordinary criminals are held.

Political prisoner Reza Shahabi, a member of Tehran’s bus drivers syndicate, has been on hunger strike for 35 days and his conditions are seriously deteriorating. He is on hunger strike protesting his exile from ward 350 in Evin Prison to Gohardasht Prison since June 1st. Latif (Araz) Hassani, a political prisoner held in Tabriz Central Prison, has been on hunger strike for the past 48 days protesting rights violations against political prisoners. He is currently in concerning conditions and suffering from heart illnesses.
