Arash Sadeghi, political prisoner incarcerated in Ward 8 of the Evin Prison, is in the 70th day of his hunger strike. His health is badly deteriorating and he is in critical conditions.

In the morning of Sunday, January 1, 2017, he went unconscious due to vomiting of large amount of blood and kept having frequent seizures. His body is dehydrated. His kidneys have suffered serious damage and he is jeopardized by adhesion and hemorrhage of the stomach.

The criminal warden of Evin Prison had earlier warned Mr. Sadeghi, “This time, I will not let you out of prison alive!”

Arash Sadeghi has a Masters of Art in Philosophy from Tehran’s Allameh Tabatabaii University. He was deprived from continuing his education because of his student activities. He was arrested many times between 2009 and 2014. He has been sentenced to 19 years in prison on the charges of “disseminating anti-government propaganda and conspiring against national security.”

Mr. Sadeghi’s wife, Golrokh Iraee, has been also sentenced to six years of jail and imprisoned on the charge of insulting “the leader and the regime” and for writing an unpublished story against the inhumane punishment of stoning.

The Iranian Resistance calls on international human rights authorities and organizations to take urgent action to save the life of Arash Sadeghi.
