Iraqi MP demands an end to the siege on Ashraf

NCRI – The Iranian regime is using its intelligence agents to taint the image of the residents of Camp Ashraf and to subject them to psychological torture, an Iraqi member of Parliament told Baghdad daily on Sunday.

Haydar al-Molla of the Iraqiya list told the paper that the Iranian regime uses “violent means against the residents of Ashraf,” who are members of the main opposition People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).

He also said, “There is cooperation between elements within the Iraqi government and the Iranian regime’s intelligence services who have installed loudspeakers to create an intolerable situation for Ashraf residents.”

Mr. Molla added, “The residents of Ashraf are considered protected persons under international law and torture against them is illegal. These inhumane measures violate international humanitarian law and are subject to international prosecution.”

The Iraqi MP underscored the medical siege on Ashraf and said the medical situation in the camp has become intolerable.

The paper said measures implemented by Omar Khaled, who runs the so-called New Iraq hospital in Ashraf, coupled with the policies of the suppression committee at the prime minister’s office, have led to delays in the treatment of patients, even causing several deaths.

Mr. Molla called for the immediate lifting of the siege on Ashraf and an end to the psychological torture of the residents. He stressed that such measures have caused international condemnations, including by the United Nations.
