NCRI – Dutch-Iranian Youths for Freedom have issued a statement in the run-up to a major rally and march planned for this Saturday in The Hague.

The following is the text of the statement by the Dutch-Iranian youths:

Iraans-Nederlandse Jongeren voor Vrijheid

On the anniversary of Iran 1988 massacre

Saturday, 20 August: Major demonstration by Iranians in The Hague to protest wave of executions in Iran

Dutch-Iranians will take part in a major demonstration on Saturday, 20 August to protest the wave of executions in Iran. The Iranian authorities have executed dozens of people in the past two weeks. Overall 2600 people have been executed during the tenure of Hassan Rouhani.

The demonstration will coincide with the anniversary of the massacre of political prisoners in the summer of 1988.  In a matter of a few months, more than 30,000 political prisoners who were serving their terms were summarily executed upon a fatwa, issued by Khomeini, the founder of the theocratic regime. The overwhelming majority of the victims were activists of the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK), the main Iranian opposition movement.

An audio tape has been published for the first time of Hossein-Ali Montazeri, Khomeini’s former heir, shedding new light on the scope and pace of the 1988 massacre and sending political shock waves in Iran. Scores of those responsible for the massacre are cabinet ministers in the Rouhani government or currently hold other senior positions.

Farzad Madadzadeh, a prominent political prisoner who recently left Iran and took refuge in the Netherlands, will be one of the speakers at this demonstration.

Scores of the Dutch Iranians who have lost many members of their families during the 1988 massacre will take part in the demonstration.

The participants will urge the Dutch government to categorically condemn the ongoing executions in Iran and act with its allies to call for an immediate halt to the executions and torture in Iran. They will also call on the UN Security Council to form an international court to prosecute those responsible for the 1988 massacre in Iran.

A number of Dutch personalities will also address the demonstration.

Venue: The Hague, Spuiplein (Near The Hague city hall)

Date and Time: Saturday 20 August, 15:00-18:00
