Obama unveils Syria, Iran technology sanctions

AFP - WASHINGTON —By Stephen Collinson - US President Barack Obama Monday ordered new sanctions on Syria and Iran and the "digital guns for hire" who help them oppress their people with surveillance software and monitoring technology.

Obama announced additions to the pile of US sanctions already faced by the two governments as part of a wider effort to crack down on human rights abuses, atrocities and genocide, at a speech at the US Holocaust Museum.

U.K. Orders Closing of Iranian Embassy in London After Yesterday’s Attack

U.K. Foreign Secretary William Hague ordered the closure of the Iranian Embassy in London following the storming of the British Embassy in Tehran, saying the attack happened with the consent of Iran’s government.

All Iranian diplomats must leave the U.K. in the next 48 hours, Hague said, over the “grave violation” of the Vienna Convention, which protects diplomats working in foreign countries. He said the closure of Iran’s mission didn’t amount to a severing of diplomatic ties. Britain has closed its embassy in Tehran and evacuated all of the staff, Hague said.

Norway Closes Iran Embassy As UK Attacked

AP - (OSLO, Norway and LONDON) — Nov. 30, 2011 - Norway has closed its embassy in Tehran due to security concerns after Britain's mission was stormed by Iranian protesters, an official said Wednesday.

Hilde Steinfeld, a Foreign Ministry spokeswoman in Oslo, said the decision to close the embassy was taken late Tuesday, but that Norway's diplomatic staff have not been evacuated from the country. "They're still in Tehran," she said.

McCain: Obama a 'failure' on Iran

In the wake of a thwarted assassination plot against Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United States, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) on Sunday called President Barack Obama’s policy toward Iran a “failure.” -  Politico, October 16, 2011.

Attorney General Eric Holder last week announced the attempt, which he said was “conceived, sponsored, and … directed from” the Iranian government. Asked by host Candy Crowley on CNN's "State of the Union" whether Obama has been too soft on Iran, McCain replied, “I think his policy of engagement with Iran has clearly been a failure.”

Iranian regime's intervention brings disaster to Iraq's political situation

NCRI - Zafer al-Ani a leader of the al-Iraqi list asserted on October 7, 2011 that preventing formation of the National Assembly of Strategic Policy by Nouri Maliki's list is at the behest of the Iranian regime.

In an interview with Baghdad TV, he said:  We know well that a decision is made by the Iranian regime not to allow formation of the National Council for Strategic Policy and thus Al-Iraqi's election rights is not respected.
