Iranians in Australia denounce human rights abuses in Iran

NCRI – Members of the Iranian-Australian community held a demonstration in Sydney over the weekend to raise awareness about the appalling state of human rights in Iran.

The Iranian demonstrators pointed out that the human rights situation in Iran had dramatically deteriorated in the two years since Hassan Rouhani took office as President.

The rally in central Sydney on Saturday by the supporters of the main Iranian opposition group People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran, PMOI (Mujahedin-e Khalq, MEK), also condemned the increasing rate of executions in Iran.

A statement by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein on August 5 said: “Iran has reportedly executed more than 600 individuals so far this year. Last year, at least 753 people were executed in the country.”
