German politician slams Iranian regime as “murderous” and “evil”

NCRI – A prominent German politician has expressed his unhappiness with the West’s current policy towards Iran, in an interview with the Alliance for Public Awareness – Iranian Communities in Europe.

Günter Verheugen, a member of the Social Democratic Party, attended the ‘Free Iran’ rally in Paris on July 9.

In the interview, the former European Commissioner said that anyone who expected that the nuclear deal would result in a more liberal Iran was “naïve.”

He said that it was important for the West to open up a political dialogue with the Iranian Resistance: the People’s Mojahedin of Organization of Iran (PMOI or MEK) and the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI).

He urged his fellow Europeans to reject the Iranian regime’s lies and recognize the Resistance as the only viable alternative to the mullahs.
He also criticized the treatment of PMOI (MEK) members who are exiled in Camp Liberty in Iraq, calling the inaction of EU member states with regards to these residents “shameful.”

Mere days before the rally, the Iranian regime’s mercenary militias launched a rocket attack on their political opposition and injured more than 50 PMOI (MEK) members: the residents of Camp Liberty are supposed to be protected from state-organized terrorism.

Verheugen described one of his earliest political activities; a demonstration against the Shah who was the dictator of Iran prior to the 1979 revolution. He said: “I never thought that what would replace them would be even worse.”
