UN General Assembly condemns human rights abuses in Iran

 

The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday slammed the violations of human rights by the Iranian regime.

The resolution on the situation of human rights in Iran was approved with 86 votes in favour, 36 against and 61 abstentions.

It criticizes the Iranian regime’s use of “inhuman” punishments, including flogging and amputations, and its use of the death penalty against young people under age 18.

The UN envoy on human rights in Iran, Ahmed Shaheed, in a UN committee in October criticised the Iranian regime for executing hundreds in18 months, including many after Rouhani was elected in June.
