Iran: Protests of Doctors, Workers, Students and Businessmen in Different Cities

Iran Uprising – No. 80

The protest of the various strata and people who are fed up and unable to provide the basic needs of their lives and their families continues in different cities. Some of the protests on Wednesday, February 14th were as follows:

1. A group of specialist physicians from Imam Reza Hospital in Lar, Fars province, protested against the failure to pay their salaries.

2. Urumieh steel workers gathered in front of the provincial governorate in protest of non-payment of their salaries for one year.

3. In Sirjan, a group of drivers whose job was to load from the Gol Gohar mine went on strike in protest of lowering the fare. They blocked the road leading to Gol Gohar Mining Industrial Complex. Other drivers also stopped their car, seeing the strike, and joined the strikers.

4. The workers of Haft Tapeh sugarcane factory went on strike in protest at not paying their salaries.

5. The workers of the Omran Ninava Institute gathered outside the governorate of Sar-Pol Zahab to protest against the failure to pay unemployment insurance. They have lost their jobs since the earthquake.

6. The contract workers of Bandar Mahshahr Special Economic Zone gathered in front of the governorate.

7. Workers and contractors at the Metro Station of Cheshmeh Ali in Shahr-e Ray gathered in protest against the non-payment of their demands for eight months.

8. The workers of the Nazarabad municipality (Alborz province) stopped working and gathered in front of the municipality protesting that they had received no wages for five months and no insurance for one month.

9. The workers of Tehran Bus Company, member of the Sepidar Project 2 and 3, gathered in front of the Tehran City Council for the tenth straight day in protest of the non-delivery of the housing for which they had paid five years ago. In five years, only 45% of the project has been completed and left half-finished.

10. In Kermanshah, the people looted by the so-called “Maktab Farsh, Glim, Gabeh ” institution gathered outside the judiciary for the third straight day. Their gathering was simultaneous with the court held for the chief of the institution. The protesters demanded the return of their deposits. Mohammad Reza Moshiri, the owner of this institute, plundered hundreds of billions of tomans assests of 23,000 people five years ago, in collaboration with regime officials in Tehran and Kermanshah, and with extensive government propaganda.

11. Students and graduates of Disseminated Engineering Schools in Mashhad protested against the regime’s approval to cancel their engineering degree and employment status.

12. A group of shopkeepers of the Plasco building gathered in front of the parliament and the municipality of the 12th district. Their protested the refusal of the regime’s agents to open up the non-damaged part of the building and not responding to their demands and problems.

13. In Mashhad, a poor man who has been unable to pay for his home electricity over the past four years due to poverty and unemployment, went to the power plant building in Mashhad district 2 and set fire to the company’s director’s office.

14. During the past few days, taxi drivers in Andisheh district of Tehran and taxi drivers in Kerman and Qom …. have gone on strike. In Kerman, angry drivers attacked the office of the government taxi company named Snap and destroyed its equipment.
