Iran: Intensification of Repression Against Political Prisoners; Call for Establishment of an International Fact-Finding Mission

ncri-statement-600

The Iranian Resistance calls on all international authorities, particularly the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, and the Special Rapporteurs on Arbitrary Detention and the Right to Life to take urgent and effective measures to save the lives of political prisoners, and calls for the establishment of a fact-finding mission to address the plight of political prisoners in Iran.

Mr. Mohammad Nazari, 46, a Kurdish political prisoners in ward 4 of the Gohardasht prison in Karaj, who has lost 25 kilos due to nearly three months of hunger strike, is now in a very dire condition. He has been in prison for 24 years. His criminal interrogator has told him: “When you die, they will talk about you one or two days and that’s it.”

Political prisoner Sohail Arabi, a 32-year-old blogger and photographer who had just terminated his 52-day hunger strike after he was transferred to the political prisoners ward, has resumed his hunger strike since Wednesday, October18. Following the prison guards attack on Ward 350 of Evin Prison, he was transferred to Ward 8, one of the worst places in Evin Prison where ordinary criminals are held. He does not even have a place to rest in this ward and is stationed in the corridor.

Arash Sadeghi was also transferred to the Gohardasht Prison after the guards attacked Ward 350. The new place is under tight security control and very difficult conditions. He suffers from various illnesses and extremely unfavorable physical conditions due to a long hunger strike, but the IRGC intelligence agents always prevent him from receiving medical care.

The guards in Ardebil Central Prison have increased pressures on political prisoner Maher Ka’bi, a 25-year-old student from the Arab minority. The regime’s agents have intensified pressure on her family because of his hunger strike. Ardebil Central Prison is considered as exile for the political prisoners due to its deteriorating conditions.

On October 17, five Kurdish political prisoners were also beaten in Ward 1 of a psychiatric treatment in the Orumieh Central Prison by the torturers and criminals of the mafia bands affiliated with regime officials in jail, and two of them were transferred to solitary confinement cells.

Earlier, Rassoul Hardani, a 36-year-old political prisoner, was severely beaten and injured by the mercenaries hired by the regime officials in prison. For the purpose of punishing him, he was transferred to the Ward 30 of the Gohardasht prison, a place where ordinary criminals are held. He was subsequently transferred to the prison quarantine. Rasoul Hardani, who has been in prison with his brother since he was 18 years old, is denied access to medical care, despite being ill.
