Political prisoner Mohammad Nazari is in dangerously critical conditions after 94 days of hunger strike. Mr. Nazari is currently detained in Gohardasht Prison, Karaj - west of Tehran. The National Council of Resistance of Iran calls on international defenders of human rights, particularly the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Special Rapporteur on human rights in Iran, the special rapporteurs on arbitrary arrests, torture and the right to life, to take urgent action and effective measures to save his life and gain his freedom.

Mohammad Nazari was arrested in 1993 and sentenced to life in prison. According to the clerical regime’s laws, which has become binding since 2013, his life sentence must be commuted to 15 years. The Intelligence Ministry, however, does not release him despite 24 years of imprisonment. Instead, they have increased pressures on him by depriving him of receiving medical care, subjecting him to more difficult conditions. They intend to torment him to death.

Prison officials in Gohardasht have not provided the most basic treatment to Mohammad Nazari, conditioning any medical care on ending his hunger strike. Mr. Nazari has been on hunger strike for 94 days and has lost 25 kilograms. He is not able to walk or talk and his body rejects water.

His interrogator has told him, “It’s not important if you die. People would talk about you for a day or two and then, everything will be over.”

In his last message, where he vowed to continue his hunger strike, Mohammad Nazari said, “I will go back to Boukan , whether (alive and) free, or dead.”
