Iran: 1500 Arrested in the Fire Festivities

Call for their immediate release

Mohammad Sharafi, one of Iran’s Security Forces’ commanders declared that the suppressive forces arrested almost 1500 people during the Fire Festivities (State news agency of ISNA, March 15). Theses arrests indicate the authorities’ fearful reaction to Iranian youth who despite all the regime’s threatening warnings turned the Fire Festivities into a scene of their confrontation with the despotic regime as well as an opportunity for expressing their revulsion of the regime.

Iran: 18 Executions Including 2 Women and One in Public and Mass Arrests

The Iranian regime hanged 18 prisoners over the past three days in various cities. On March 6, two young prisoners in the prison of Sari, two other prisoners, including a 70 year old man in Orumiyeh Central Prison and two others in the prison of Garmsar were hanged.

The day before, a prisoner was hanged in public in Buin Zahra (Qazvin province) and three in Ghezel Hessar Prison in Karaj. On March 4, eight prisoners were hanged in Rasht, Orumiyeh, Shahroud and Hamedan prisons. Two of the four prisoners executed in Rasht were women.

Since March 1st, the henchmen of the clerical regime in Gohardasht prison in Karaj have intensified noise diffusion on the ward of political prisoners in order to disrupt communication and to prevent leaking the news about the dire situation of prisons and to torture and exert more pressure on them.

This inhumane act has caused nausea, lack of appetite, dizziness, severe headaches and diarrhea among prisoners and in the long term will have complications much more destructive such as cancer. However henchmen have refused to treat the prisoners.
