In the early hours of Monday, July 12, 2021, political prisoner Mehran Gharabaghi, 29, who has been in Behbahan prison since January 2020, was transferred to an unknown location by regime intelligence agents. His fate is unknown. On May 23, the Iranian Resistance warned of the possibility of his execution and called for urgent action to save him.
Mehran was tried on April 24, 2020, on charges of propaganda against the regime, membership in the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), vandalism and arson, disturbing public order, participation in the manufacture of flammable materials, and “corruption on earth.” The Ministry of Intelligence subsequently pressured his family to ask their son to renounce his beliefs and collaborate with the intelligence service against the MEK.
The Iranian Resistance once again calls on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other human rights organizations to take urgent action to save the lives of Mehran Gharabaghi and other political prisoners on death row.
