Call for immediate action to secure the release of arrestees in the Mahabad uprising

NCRI – The Iranian regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) has dispatched a group of henchmen to torture and interrogate those arrested in last week during anti-regime protests.

The interrogators sent to prisons in a numbers of cities in coordination with the MOIS offices in Kurdistan and Western Azerbaijan province.

Hundreds were arrested during the May 7 uprising of people of Mahabad and the protests in other cities of this region in the ensuing days. In addition to prisons in Mahabad and Sanandaj, the arrestees were transferred to Orumiyeh, Miando’ab and Naqadeh prisons.

Concurrent with the dispatch of henchmen from Tehran, oppression and control measures in the prisons in this region and the level of presence of suppressive forces inside these prisons have been markedly ramped up. In the prison of Mahabad the weekly visits of the prisoners has been suspended and prisoners’ phones have been cut off. Additionally, torturers resort to irregular inspections of the wards and are interrogating many of the political prisoners.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the people and especially the youth in the region to support the arrestees of the Mahabad uprising and to express their solidarity with detainee families. Additionally, it urges international agencies, especially the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Iran, and the mandate holders on arbitrary arrests and torture to condemn the atrocities of the mullahs’ regime in Iranian Kurdistan and to take swift and effective action to stop the torture and to secure the release of all the arrestees of the Mahabad uprising and that of the other cities of Kurdistan.
