Iran: Ordering Death and Prison Sentences for Arrested Protesters to Prevent an Uprising

Iran Regime’s Treating Prisoners Alone Debunks Mullahs’ Effort to Depict U.S. Sanctions for Coronavirus Epidemic

NCRI-50Isfahan Chief Justice: The MEK should know that if a breach [uprising] like the ones in 2009, 2017-2018 and last November happens, we would respond decisively. The verdict of “corruption on earth” has been approved for eight cases related to the mentioned incidents

In fear of widespread protests and uprising as well as the activities of the Resistance Units that break the regime’s atmosphere of terror and intimidation, the ruling religious dictatorship is desperately trying to prevent another popular uprising by creating an atmosphere of fear through executions, issuing long-term sentences, and arresting the youth.

Yesterday, Mohammad Reza Habibi, the clerical regime’s head of the Justice Department in Isfahan, expressed his fear of another uprising. “Let the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/ PMOI) puppets know that if anything goes wrong, like what happened in 2009, December 2017-January 2018, and November last year, we will respond decisively … The verdict of’ corruption on earth’ has been approved for eight cases related to the mentioned incidents,” he was quoted as saying, according to Mehr news agency, today. “Corruption on Earth” is coined by the regime and is punishable by death.

In another development, Nasruddin Salehi, regime’s Public Prosecutor of Shahinshahr and Meymeh, told the official news agency ISNA, today about death sentences and imprisonment for what he called the perpetrators of armed robbery and the leaders of last November’s riots that “destroyed public property with detailed prior plans.” He added, “The verdict will be carried out upon the final approval by the prosecutor’s office.” He also warned, “disseminating lies, wittingly or unwittingly disturbing the public via digital or telecommunications system, will receive a sentence from 91 days to two years in prison or a fine or both.”

Earlier, political prisoners Amir Hossein Moradi, 26, Saeed Tamjidi, 28, and Mohammad Rajabi, 26, were arrested for participating in the November uprising and sentenced to death after being tortured for a long time. They are now in danger of being executed.

At the same time, the Ministry of Intelligence, the IRGC’s Intelligence Organization and other repressive services have arrested, summoned, and threatened a large number of youth, supporters, and families of MEK in Tehran and other provinces, such as Gilan, Kermanshah, and Khuzestan. In addition, the intelligence and security forces have contacted many young people in various cities, warning them against contacting the MEK and threatening them with the consequences of such contacts.

The Iranian Resistance is calling for immediate action by the United Nations Secretary-General, the UN Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, as well as relevant rapporteurs and other human rights organizations, to save the lives of political prisoners in Iran. It reiterates the call by Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), for the formation of an international fact-finding delegation to visit Iranian prisons and meet with prisoners, especially political prisoners.
