On May 29 thousands of plundered people demonstrated outside Bank Markazi (Central Bank) in Tehran and clashed with the suppressive forces who were trying to disperse them. Angry people broke windows of the bank’s northern door and blocked Mirdamad Ave. They chanted, “It is a mourning day today, our deposits are gone”, “Incompetent government, shame, shame!”, “Down with Saif [head of Bank Markazi], “Caspian has stolen, Bank Markazi has supported”. Women had a significant presence in demonstrations.

On May 28, plundered people staged protest gatherings in many cities of Khouzestan province, such as Ahvaz, Shoush, Shoushtar, Omidieh and Izeh, and also in the cities of Khorramabad, Arak, Boushehr and Delfan. They demanded the return of their deposits. In Ahvaz, protesters blocked Ahvaz-Shoush road. Among other protests against this governmental plundering organ during recent days were: demonstration in Ardabil with the slogan “Is this Bank Markazi, or theft center?”; protest in Gorgan with the slogan “Don’t scare, don’t scare, we are all together”; protest by hundreds of people and youths of Nourabad who burned tires and placed obstacles in front of Arman plundering institution, occupied its branch in Kiu (in Khorramabad), and jailed its head; and protest by the people of Shoush.

In response to these protests, Farshad Haidari, deputy head of Bank Markazi who had issued permit for all plundering, admitted to plundering by the institutions and said, “Some credit institutions…commit violations such as formal deal, distortion and paying unreal interest rates.” He, then, pinned the blame on the people for the fraud and said, “I advise the people to avoid putting any deposits in these institutions; otherwise they are responsible for any problem in their financial resources and deposits.”

Ahmad Hatami, another regime’s agent, admitted, “Big powers back these financial and credit institutions; powers who can even change the decisions of Money and Credit Council if needed.” (Eghtesad News- May 20)

Corruption, theft, plundering and looting the assets of deprived people is an integral part of the mullahs’ medieval regime. This theft and crime cycle will only come to an end through the mullahs’ regime overthrow.
