Iran: Widespread purge of professors at Tehran University

Widespread purge of professors at Tehran UniversityNCRI – Faced with expanding protests by academics against its suppressive rule, particularly in Iranian universities, the mullahs’ regime has resorted to purging university professors.

The appointed chancellor of Tehran University mullah Abbass-Ali Amid-Zanjani described the widespread purge of Tehran University professors as a “legal and fair” deal, according to official news agency IRNA (June 22, 2006).

He added, “This year, between 45 and 50 of the academic faculty were retired.” It is worthy to note that by Zanjani’s own words the professors’ “political persuasion” was taken into account in this matter.

Zanjani, who has no academic background but nevertheless presides over one of the most accredited learning institutions in Iran, expressed his abhorrence at the academic faculty of Tehran University and said, “Some of the tutors with careers spanning 30 years have had no improvements in their work.”

The Iranian Resistance condemns the massive purge of the professors and lecturers and calls on members of academic faculties and students in all Iranian colleges and universities to protest against such suppressive measures.
