Maryam Rajavi: Iranian regime is responsible for losses due to snowfall northern Iran

Mrs Maryam Rajavi, President-elect of the Iranian Resistance, expressed her sympathy regarding the regrettable consequences of the heavy snowfall in various parts of Iran, especially in Gilan and Mazandaran and in particular the considerable and heartbreaking loss of lives of our compatriots. She offered her condolences to the families who suffered losses and to the people of Gilan and Mazandaran in general.

Rajavi said: “The religious dictatorship is directly responsible for the human and material losses. The worn out state of vehicles that maintain the roads, the acutely weak and retarded state of the distribution infrastructures for water and electricity, the shortage of gas, and the weak structure of the houses are all the consequences of a regime that spends most of the nation’s income and wealth on the colossal cost of the suppressive apparatus, the revolutionary guards, the program to produce nuclear weapons, and to export terrorism and foment war in the region, especially the anti-human war against the Syrian people or alternatively nations’ money goes to the plunderers and the usurers who run the country.

The catastrophic state of the northern sections of the country after the snowfall is but an example of the horrendous condition that our people are facing during the era of mullahs’ rule.

As acknowledged by regime’s parliamentarians, this area is also facing a crisis due to the shortage of bread in addition to the cutoff of water, electricity, gas and telephone lines. Medicine has become scarce and the prices have sharply increased.

Rural roads in the snow stricken areas are cutoff and just in Gaemshahr there is no news about 113 villages hit by the snowfall. Similarly, in Gilan, one-hundred villages are cutoff.

The roofs of many houses and public facilities have collapsed because they are substandard and with the roads closed and people trapped in their homes, there is no news about the fate of these people. Hossein Mir Shafi, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transportation, said that we are not prepared to take care of rural roads even in light snowfalls; the problem is a lack of budget.
