Call for urgent action to secure his immediate release after 17 years of imprisonment without a single day of leave
Ayoub Porkar, a political prisoner held in Sheiban Prison of Ahvaz, is in critical physical condition. He suffers from severe abdominal pain and internal infection and is in an emergency state, yet the prison authorities only provide him with painkillers and take no effective action to treat him or save his life.
In late October this year, following the deterioration of his condition, Ayoub was transferred from prison to a medical center in Ahvaz, but before his treatment was completed, he was returned to prison. Since then, his condition has worsened, and his life is in serious danger.
Ayoub Porkar, 70, from Tabriz, was an air force fighter pilot in the 1980s who was expelled due to his political views. He was arrested in December 2008 and charged with “enmity against God through collaboration with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK).” He was initially sentenced to death, later commuted to 20 years in prison. He has been imprisoned for 17 years without a single day of medical or regular leave, in Evin, Behbahan Fajr, Ahvaz Karun, Shushtar, and now Sheiban prisons.
The Iranian Resistance calls for urgent action by the UN High Commissioner and the Human Rights Council, the Special Rapporteur, and other human rights bodies to secure the release of Ayoub Porkar and his immediate transfer to a hospital.
