NCRI logoOn Monday, May 17, 2021, Urmia Central Prison guards attacked a ward and beat to death one of the prisoners, Amir Rezaei, 35, who had spent 10 years of his 20-year sentence.

The repressive guards threw Amir Rezaei down the stairs from the second floor, and while he was severely injured, dragged him to solitary confinement and continued to beat and torture him. While unconscious because of the beatings, Rezaei was taken to the prison medical center but died an hour later.

Although the signs of torture and beatings on the prisoner’s body are evident, the prison warden and the regime’s agents claim that Rezaei died of a drug overdose.

Killing prisoners is routine in the clerical regime and has accelerated during Ebrahim Raisi’s tenure as the Judiciary Chief. The Iranian Resistance reiterates the need for a United Nations fact-finding delegation to visit prisons and meet with prisoners.
