The regime’s atrocities must be referred to the UN Security Council, and its leaders must be brought to justice for crimes against humanity and genocide

The clerical regime, mired in crisis and terrified of the public discontent, continues to suppress, torture, and execute people to prevent the eruption of popular anger. At least 25 executions have been recorded since December 22 (the beginning of the current month in the Persian calendar). The actual number of executions is much higher.

This morning, January 13, 2022, Khamenei’s henchmen hanged a Baluch compatriot in Isfahan Prison, and six prisoners in Gohardasht Prison on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. On Tuesday, January 11, two brothers, Farhang and Yaser Aliallahi, were executed in Zanjan after five years in prison. On Sunday, January 9, a prisoner was executed in Qazvin Prison. Also, three Baluch compatriots, Jalil Ashtarak, Mohammad Salar Zehi, and Amin Alipanahi, were hanged in Zabul and Shiraz prisons last week.

After Ebrahim Raisi became president, the number of executions in Iran doubled during the last four months of 2021, compared to the previous four months. Among those executed were three prisoners under 18 at the time of their arrest and 10 women.

The Iranian Resistance urges the United Nations Secretary-General and all relevant UN bodies and rapporteurs, the European Union, and its member states to strongly condemn the escalation of the wave of executions and repression in Iran and calls for urgent action to save the lives of death row prisoners.

Dealing with a regime that has remained in power only through torture and execution, and is the world’s leading per capita executioner, is a clear violation of the internationally recognized principles and standards of human rights and democracy. The dossier of this regime’s atrocities must be referred to the UN Security Council and its leaders, especially Khamenei, Ebrahim Raisi (, and Judiciary Chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Eje’i must be brought to justice for four decades of crimes against humanity and genocide.
