List of Names of 2,273 Prisoners Incarcerated Because of Their Political and Religious Beliefs

A “Top Secret” List of Detained Protesters

  • In addition to 267 prisons, detention centers, camps, and Penitentiaries belonging to the regime’s Prisons Organization until July 2020, the State Security Force (SSF) and the Ministry of Intelligence have 159 and 147 separate detention centers, respectively.

The attached list is an example of a list of “highly confidential” prisoners incarcerated because of their political and ideological beliefs in the regime’s judiciary, including a number of protesters detained during the uprisings and members of the Resistance Units. The list contains 2,567 rows of names of prisoners, 294 of whom have been repeated due to the variety of charges and attributed offenses. As a result, the total number of unique names is 2,273, of which 1,552 are convicted, and 721 are accused. The charges and convictions include the following:

  • “Insulting the Supreme Leader;”
  • “Insulting Imam Khomeini, the founder of the Islamic Republic.;”
  • “Insulting the Statues of Imam Khomeini and the Supreme Leader;”
  • “Insulting the great leader of the revolution;”
  • “Insulting the sanctities, insulting the country’s officials;”
  • “Insulting the Supreme Leader, insulting Islam’s sanctities, and destroying public property;”
  • “Insulting the Supreme Leader, connection with a terrorist group;”
  • “Practical and verbal insult to a government official,” “disturbing the order of the court;” and
  • false accusations and other charges under the pretexts of “insulting Imam Reza” and “insulting the Prophet and the Imams and the sanctities.”

In the terminology of the clerical regime’s judiciary, Khomeini and Khamenei are considered to be “sacred.” “Islamic sanctities” mean the symbols of the mullahs’ regime. Similarly, the “destruction of public property” means torching banners, signs, and images of the regime leaders and torching the symbols of the regime’s centers of repression and plunder.

Some of the other “crimes” on this list are:

  • “Membership in the opposition communities of the country:”
  • “Membership and activity in dissident groups;”
  • “Gathering and colluding to commit crimes against national security;”
  • “Moharebeh (Waging War on God) and corruption on earth;”
  • “Propaganda activity against the holy system of the Islamic Republic of Iran;”
  • “Membership in anti-regime groups and propaganda activities by setting fire to   banners with a picture of commander (Qassem) Soleimani;”
  • “Joining a group to undermine national security (Resistance Units), working for the benefit of dissident groups by writing graffiti and sending video footage to the hypocrites (a pejorative term used by the regime to demonize the Mujahedin-e Khalq-MEK);”
  • “Membership in the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK/PMOI), propaganda activities against the regime, insulting the Imam and the leadership, cooperation with hostile foreign countries, taking photos of office buildings under the guise of news reporting, and introducing it as a torture chamber;”

It is worth mentioning that according to the report of the Statistics Office of the Prisons Organization in July 2020, in addition to 267 prisons, detention centers, camps, and penitentiaries belonging to the Prisons Organization,(below) the State Security Force (SSF) and the Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS) control 159 and 147 separate detention centers, respectively, which has now increased even further.
