This morning, students at Khajeh Nasir University in Tehran boycotted classes and protested following the death of a fellow student. His death was attributed to a delay by Harasat staff, a branch of the intelligence ministry and the IRGC’s Student Basij Organization, in transferring him to the hospital. The students chanted, “Students may die, but they will not accept humiliation.” They also shouted at the suppressive agents, “Shameless! Shameless!”
Last night, Amir Mehdi Chegini, a chemistry student at Khajeh Nasir University, was severely injured after falling from the third floor of the dormitory. However, because the dormitory gate was locked, an ambulance could not enter, and students’ repeated attempts to open the gate were unsuccessful. After breaking open the gate, students transferred Amir Mehdi to the hospital, but due to the delay, he passed away upon arrival.

Students declared that Mohammad Shirbeygi, the head of the university Harasat; Hossein Mahdavi Moqaddam, the dormitory director; the president of Khajeh Nasir University; and the Minister of Science, were responsible for this student’s death. They chanted, “Irresponsible officials, resign! Mahdavi, show some shame and leave the university!”
The primary concern of the management of Iran’s universities, which are controlled by the office of the Supreme Leader, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), and various security agencies, is to prevent student protests. They aim to transform universities into military-style camps and prisons.
