Students protest at Sharif, Yasuj and Hormozgan universities

 Nationwide uprising – Statement 198

NCRI – Students at the Sharif University of Technology in Tehran staged an anti-regime protest on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, for the fifth day in a row. They chanted anti-regime slogans, including, “death to you” and “victory is inevitable, death to this deceptive government.”

In western Iran, students at the University of Yasuj protested over the expulsion of four of their colleagues. They also voiced anger over pressures exerted by a security organ known as “Herasat” (Security Office), which as the representative branch of the regime’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security, acts as the spying and suppressive body on campus. Protestors chanted, “Herasat shame on you, leave the campus” and “Herasat hear this: We are students not hooligans.” The four students were expelled in response to a student protest last week at the same university against the clerical regime’s backward policies, including the segregation of sexes on student buses at the University of Yasuj.

In southern Iran, too, students at the University of Hormazgan staged a sit-in and chanted anti-government slogans to protest the sudden death of a male student. The deceased had diabetes and died last night as a result of lack of proper medical care and facilities.

So far dozens of students have lost their lives in Iran as a result of lack of medical facilities and dire circumstances in campus dormitories.
