Deprivation of Visits for 21 Female Political Prisoners in Evin Prison for Commemorating the November 2019 Uprising and Protesting Executions

On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, Hedayat Farzadi, the head of Evin Prison, informed 21 female political prisoners that they would be barred from receiving visits for three months. The prison’s disciplinary committee justified this oppressive measure by claiming it was due to “disruption of prison order,” which was a result of the prisoners participating in a ceremony commemorating the anniversary of the November 2019 uprising and chanting slogans in protest of executions.

The Women’s Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran strongly condemns the repressive actions of the misogynistic clerical regime against female political prisoners. It calls on the UN Special Rapporteur on violence against women, the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, the UN fact-finding mission, relevant reporters, and all human rights and women’s rights organizations to take immediate action to overturn these inhumane restrictions and pressure tactics against political prisoners, especially women.
