The Three Prisoners Had Already Been Imprisoned for Many Years in the 1980s and 2010s

On Thursday, January 6, 2009, Branch 26 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court sentenced three women to a total of 12 years in prison on the charges of “propaganda activities against the regime” and “conspiracy to act against national security by cooperating with the Mujahedin-e Khalq (MEK) organization.”

According to the inhuman verdicts, the 63-year-old Makhsus Bukharaei and the 59-year-old Azar Musazadeh were each sentenced to five years imprisonment, and Roghayeh Sultan Mirzaei, 69, to two years. The court ordered the confiscation of her garden in Shahriar. According to the verdict, the three prisoners “gathered and colluded” in Ms. Mirzaei’s garden. The regime murdered four members of Ms. Mirzaei’s family.

All three were political prisoners in the 1980s, spending many years in prison. In addition, Ms. Bukharaei and Ms. Musazadeh had previously been arrested in the 2010s and spent several years in prison. Ms. Musazadeh’s husband is one of the victims of the 1988 massacre.

The Iranian Resistance calls on the United Nations and all human rights defenders and the European Union and its member states to condemn these criminal and medieval sentences and take immediate action to secure the release of political prisoners, especially women prisoners. The clerical regime’s human rights violations’ dossier must be referred to the UN Security Council, and its leaders must be brought to justice.
