Statements: Women in Iran

Call on international community to protest blatant insult to Iranian women

Iranian Resistance calls on international community to protest clerical regime's blatant insult to Iranian women

In blatantly threatening language, the commander of State Security Forces in Tehran warned today that "models of corruption out in public places will be dealt with." His remarks were reported by the Iranian regime's news agency, ILNA.

Revolutionary Guards Commander Reza Zareie added, "Those women who may not be prostitutes, but who do not observe the dress regulation, will be dealt with severely."

Reacting to these statements by the top police commander in the Iranian capital, Ms. Sarvnaz Chitsaz, Chair of the Women's Committee of the National Council of Resistance of Iran, called on the international community to protest against "this outrageous affront to Iranian women by the mullahs' regime."

Addressing women's rights organizations and activists around the world, Ms. Chitsaz said, "The despicable threats against women by the leaders of agencies of repression under the ruling religious fascism in Iran are an unpardonable insult to the rights and dignity of all Iranians. The time has come for the international community to adopt a firm policy against a misogynous regime that executes pregnant women, hangs a 16-year-old girl in public, and kills a Canadian woman photographer under torture."
