Excerpts of his letter to Mr. Ibrahim Jaafari, the Iraqi Prime Minister are as follows:

“I am deeply concerned to learn that Iraq's Interior Ministry's forces arrested two Iranian citizens, namely Hossein Pouyan and Mohammad-Ali Zahedi on the 4th August in Baghdad.

“I am particularly disturbed because these are 'protected persons' under the Fourth Geneva Convention. My purpose in writing to you is so that I can be assured that under no circumstances will they be deported or handed over to the Iran Government; in whose hands they would suffer torture and eventual execution.
