Iran: Juvenile offender sentenced to death

NCRI – The Iranian regime judiciary in Tehran has sentenced a young woman who had allegedly committed a crime in 2009 when she was 17.

The young woman identified as Maryam, had been has been sentenced to death for killing her husband whom she forcibly married when she was only 14 years old.

The mullahs judiciary had taken her to gallows already once but her execution had been postponed because she had been a minor at the time.

Iran under mullahs rule is one of the very few countries in the world where executions of juvenile offenders are still carried out, in contravention of its international human rights obligations.

The age of criminal responsibility in Iran is still “maturity”, meaning nine lunar years for girls and 15 lunar years for boys.
