Iran: Man arrested as being ‘thug’ paraded through Tehran

A man has been paraded through the streets of Tehran as punishment being a ‘thug’ and a series alleged other ‘crimes’ including ‘gambling during the holy month of Ramadan.’

The victim named as Samad K was forced to undergo humiliating hour-long ritual on July 23 after being arrested during police clampdown on ‘thugs’ in the Iranian capital.

A humiliating photo of him was published in major newspapers with a demand for anyone with complaints against him to come forward.

The district police chief told the regime’s state-run news agency INSA: “As the plan for securing districts was implemented and police dealt decisively with the thugs in various Tehran districts, one of the thugs named Samad K. was arrested in south-eastern Tehran.”

Degrading punishments such as parading in streets and public flogging are used systematically by the police in Iran to create an intense climate of fear among the public.

Two weeks ago, five Iranians were flogged and a Christian had his lips burnt with a cigarette as punishment for not fasting during Ramadan.

The Iranian resistance condemned the savage sentences at the time, saying: “The silence of the world community regarding these medieval punishments under the excuse of having nuclear talks with Iran has intensified the brutal and systematic violation of human rights in Iran.

“Any political and economic inter-relations with the Iranian regime should be conditioned upon improvement of human rights, cessation of arbitrary executions and ending these medieval punishments.”
