Negotiating with and appeasing the mullahs’ regime only fuels their human rights abuses and further threatens global peace
This morning, Khamenei’s henchmen hanged Reza Rasaei, a 35-year-old prisoner of the uprising and courageous son of Sahne county, Kermanshah province, in Dizel Abad prison. They denied his family a final visit before carrying out this brutal sentence. Arrested on November 24, 2022, Reza was taken to the IRGC Intelligence detention center in Kermanshah and brutally tortured, resulting in broken toes and ribs, severe shoulder damage, and leaving him immobilized for a year.
Kermanshah’s Criminal Court Branch 2 sentenced Reza to death, blood money payment, a year’s imprisonment, and 74 lashes to avenge the killing of Nader Beirami, IRGC Intelligence chief in Sahne, during the uprising. In court, Reza stated he had been severely tortured to extract forced confessions.
The Iranian Resistance had repeatedly called for urgent international intervention to save Reza’s life, including on April 27, 2024.
The surge in executions and this political prisoner’s brutal killing at the start of the new regime president’s term proves that torture and execution are cornerstones of all regime factions. It is the red line that religious dictatorship will not cross under any circumstances. Executions and torture are vital for the mullahs’ regime’s survival.
The Iranian Resistance renews its call for immediate action from the UN, EU, and member states to free political prisoners and halt their executions. Engaging, negotiating, and yielding to this regime – which leads the world in executions, terrorism, and warmongering in the 21st century – only emboldens their brutal human rights violations and further endangers regional and global peace. The crimes of Iran’s ruling religious fascism must be referred to the UN Security Council, and its leaders brought to justice.
