International human rights bodies condemn executions in Iran

International human rights bodies condemn executions in IranNCRI - Five Arab human rights organizations expressed their deep concern over the current wave of executions in Iran which includes those detained during the unrest in Ahwaz, provincial capital of Khuzistan, southern Iran.

Arab Commission for Human Rights, International Committee for Abolition of Death Penalty, Alkarameh Association in Defense of Human Rights, World Justice Organization, and Association Against Violence in Exile, highlighted in their statement that detainees were captured before the recent bombing in Ahwaz which was condemned by the above organizations at the time. Those executed were accused of being separatist elements possessing weapons.

He was considered to be the first victim of clerical regime's referral to the UN Security Council for its nuclear weapons program. Iran: Two men hanged in public in southern Iran

Iran: Two men hanged in public in southern IranNCRI - The state-run media announced today that two men were hanged in public in Ahwaz, provincial capital of oil rich Khuzistan.

The two were alleged to have been involved in a bombing in Ahwaz back in October. Khuzistan province was the scene of widespread unrests last summer which lasted several weeks and the regime had to call in reinforcements to impose a curfew to bring the situation under control. 62 people were reported to have been killed in the riots and dozens wounded. Many of those detained in summer have not been yet released and some have already been hanged in public for their involvement in the unrest.

Iran: Five men sentenced to death in Tehran

Iran: Five men sentenced to death in TehranNCRI - The clerical regime's judiciary sentenced five men to death in Tehran.

According to state-run daily Javan and Fars news agency, the five men were identified by their first names as Kheirollah, Gholam, Ebrahim, Mohammad Reza and Vali.

Human rights situation in Iran has deteriorated since Ahmadinejad's appointment as mullahs' president last summer. The number of executions has reach 200 during his presidency.

Execution of two men in southern Iran

Execution of two men in southern Iran NCRI - Two men are to be executed in the oil city of Ahwaz, provincial capital of Khuzistan, southern Iran, at dawn on Thursday, charged with involvement in recent unrests. 

Khuzistan province's deputy governor Mohsen Farokh-Nejad, alleged that the two men, identified as Ali Affrawi and Mehdi Navasseri, were responsible for a bombing in Ahwaz back in October intending to deepen ethnic tensions.

Iran: Appeal to save lives of political prisoners

NCRI - In a letter to Louise Arbour, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, on February 22, Mohammad Mohaddessin, chair of the NCRI's Foreign Affairs Committee, appealed for her intervention to save lives of political prisoners in Iran.

Mohaddessin said: "Six months after a former commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad assume power as the Iranian regime's President, the situation of human rights in Iran in general and the plight of political prisoners in particular has deteriorated. Recently, the horrific hanging of one of the most well-known political prisoners in Iran was confirmed by official sources, arousing outrage and condemnation of the public as well as international human rights organizations."
