Iran: Medical costs force families into poverty

NCRI – The soaring cost of medical treatment is forcing 700,000 people a year into poverty in Iran, a senior regime official has admitted.

Fatemeh Drakhshan, deputy of health in the Ministry of Health, Treatment and Medical Education, told the Fars news agency: “The Ministry of Health treats people as customers.”

Many Iranians were avoiding medical treatment entirely due to the steep cost, reports also revealed.

Family poverty is also forcing increasing numbers of children onto the streets to beg or earn money washing cars and selling candy.

Children as young as seven from villages outside Tehran often spent entire nights on the city’s streets to help their families, reports said.
