A Trip to Iraq for Selling Kidneys

Kidney for sale sign in Iran
A street advertisement in Iran: Kidney for sale- blood group: O+

Hossein Bigleri, head of the Association for Support of Kidney Patients in Kermanshah said that some Iranians have traveled to Iraq to sell their kidneys.

“Some Iranian citizens volunteer to donate kidneys to Iraqis and sell them at a higher price in US dollars,” Bigleri told the state-run Khabar Online.

“They say we’re going to Iraq to sell our kidneys. We assume that Iraqis come to Iran and find someone who wants to sell their kidneys, but since organ transplants for foreign nationals are forbidden in Iran, people go to Iraq,” Bigleri said. “Sellers are invited to Iraq and buyers also bring US dollars and the operation takes place in that country.”

Due to extreme poverty in Iran under the clerical regime, selling organs has become a regular source of income for people who struggle to feed their families.

In an interview with VOA on Thursday, January 13, Oleksiy Danilov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council called the downing of the PS752 Ukrainian passenger plane an act of terrorism.

Responding to the question about the Iranian regime’s Revolutionary Guard’s claim that the missile battery had mistaken the airliner for a cruise missile on January 12, 2020, Mr. Danilov said: “The Boeing 737 is a passenger aircraft and cannot be a military target. The plane posed no threat. A day after it was shot down, we announced that the plane had been targeted by a Russian Tor M1 missile. We were almost certain of that.”

“The system operator cannot make such a decision alone,” he said in response to another question about the IRGC’s claim that the missile operator was acting independently. “The highest authority must issue this order. We suspect that external control may have been used to steer the missile.”
