Two million angry Iranian stock market investors

will rise to demand savings

According to a state-run daily the more than two million Iranian stock market investors who lost their savings in the stock market will “riot” if their demands are not met.

Jahan-e-Sanat daily warned that in order to prevent protests the executive official responsible for the stock market must resign.

Another state-run daily, cited the political interference in Iran’s stock market, and said yesterday only people certain “information” would be able to take advantage of the “political” market.

On Feb. 4, a court in Antwerp, Belgium, will announce its verdict in the trial of Assadollah Assadi, a senior diplomat from the Iranian Embassy in Vienna, and three co-conspirators on charges of terrorism.

On July 1, 2018, Assadi was arrested and charged with passing 500gms of TATP high explosives and a detonator to an Iranian/Belgian couple from Antwerp. He had passed the bomb to Amir Saadouni, 40, and his wife, Nasimeh Naami, 36 — both of Iranian origin — at a Pizza Hut restaurant in Place d’Armes, Luxembourg.

Iran: Coronavirus Death Toll 478 Cities Exceeds 204,200

The People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran (PMOI/MEK) announced on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, that the Coronavirus death toll in 478 cities had exceeded 204,200. The number of victims in Tehran is 49,666, Khorasan Razavi 13,835, Isfahan 12,880, Khuzestan 10,210, Mazandaran 8,122, East Azerbaijan 7,808, West Azerbaijan 7,508, Gilan 7,246, Fars 6,192, Sistan and Baluchestan 4,921, Kerman 4,525, Central Province 4,193, and Yazd 3,737.

Journalist Moloud Hajizadeh sentenced to one-year imprisonment

Tehran’s Revolutionary Court issued a verdict on January 19, 2021, sentencing media activist and journalist Moloud Hajizadeh to one-year imprisonment.

Moloud Hajizadeh who lives in Tehran, had posted articles in protest to the bloody crackdown on the protests in Iran in November 2019. She also wrote against the downing of the Ukrainian passenger airliner by the clerical regime’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on January 8, 2020.

Iran: State-run daily warns of mass protests

The state-run Ebtekar daily warns that if the regime does not respond to the demands of the people, the consequences can be dire. “The society’s outrage is slowly building up. And we can’t predict what will happen when this hatred explodes. But what we know for sure is that this piled-up hatred will one day explode and can turn into a massive blow [to the regime],” the daily wrote on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, the economic situation in Iran continues to deteriorate as unemployment, poverty, and unpaid wages have become a common feature of everyday life.

JCPOA not happening anytime soon despite Rouhani’s optimism

On the day of US President-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani said on state TV during a cabinet meeting that the US had isolated itself from the world because of its strategies.

“In regard to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and Resolution 2231 they failed… They could not carry out the so-called snapback,” Rouhani said adding that the Trump administration failed in its maximum pressure campaign.
