The Devastating Impact of Political Dysfunction on Iran’s Economy
For nearly half a century, millions of suffering people in Iran have been immersed in misery under the rule of the most ruthless, incompetent, and corrupt leaders in Iran’s modern history. Livelihoods, even basic sustenance, have been lost, and people’s tables have shrunk and emptied day by day. The outcry has now reached experts and the middle class. Representatives of the middle class, those at the heart of society, cry out and indirectly criticize the leaders of the ruling mafia and plundering factions, saying, “There is no bread on our table, nor wisdom in the head of the ruler.”
Economist Mohsen Renani has acknowledged the lack of rationality and futility of economics under Iran’s ruling regime. On November 1, as he spoke at the Research Center of Iran’s Chamber of Commerce, the state-run Donya-ye Eghtesad newspaper quoted him as saying, “Iran’s economy has reached a point where economic solutions no longer work.
Pentagon Says US Warplanes Hit Iran-Backed Houthi Targets in Yemen
US warplanes staged multiple strikes Saturday night on Iran-backed Houthi advanced weapons storage facilities in Yemen, the Pentagon has said.
The facilities contained various weapons used to target military and civilian vessels navigating international waters throughout the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, according to information provided to AFP by the Pentagon.
The Houthi-run Al Masirah television network reported three American and British raids that targeted the capital Sanaa’s southern Al Sabeen district.
“Eyewitnesses said they heard intense flying, along with explosions in different parts of the capital Sanaa,” Al Masirah said. The United States and Britain have repeatedly struck Houthi targets in Yemen since January in response to attacks by the rebels on shipping in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Iranian Dialysis Patients Die from Toxic Drugs amidst Government Cover-up
The news about the deaths of at least 70 dialysis patients due to toxic drugs has shocked the people of Iran. This is yet another crime committed by the Iranian regime, which monopolizes the pharmaceutical industry through a power-hungry mafia. The first report came from the spokesperson for the regime’s Parliamentary Health and Medical Commission, who said, “Initially, 10 to 12 dialysis patients in Mashhad and Isfahan died after using a dialysis solution, displaying symptoms like brain damage, infections, seizures, and coma. Eventually, the death toll rose to 50, and so far, 70 people have lost their lives” (Mehr News Agency, November 2).
Thamen Company, the sole producer of dialysis drugs, is responsible for this contamination. According to a November 5 report by the state-run Khabar Online, the regime’s Food and Drug Organization reportedly knew about the aluminum contamination and adverse effects as early as May 2023 but failed to inform the public. As a result, initially “10 to 12 patients,” then 50, and now 70 patients have died.
Environmental Crisis Looms as Oil Drilling Expands in Iran’s Hawizeh Marshes
The Khuzestan Governorate, in collaboration with the oil company linked to the Execution of Imam Khomeini’s Order, has launched new oil drilling activities in the ecologically sensitive Hawizeh Marshes. This initiative, however, has proceeded without consulting the Environmental Protection Organization, raising serious environmental concerns about the region’s deteriorating ecosystem. Drilling in the Yaran oil field, encompassing both its northern and southern segments, has resumed quietly despite the alarming environmental hazards threatening the Hawizeh Marshes. Recent reports by Payam-e Ma newspaper indicate that in September, the Khuzestan Supply Council authorized new drilling, endorsing a “platform for oil activities” and actively seeking to prevent any suspension of projects in the marshes. Furthermore, the council established a committee to address “obstacles to oil operations and fulfill the Ministry of Oil’s commitments.”
Iran: Brutal Killing of Four Women and the Suicides of Two Teenage Girls Reported in Just One Week
The past week in Iran has exposed a tragic crisis with the brutal killing of four women and the suicides of two teenage girls.
These incidents lay bare a disturbing pattern of femicides under the Iranian clerical regime. After over four decades of rule that began by enforcing compulsory hijab and systemically marginalizing women with deeply discriminatory laws, the murder of women has tragically become commonplace. This deeply troubling reality demands international attention and intervention to halt the ongoing violence against women in Iran.
The regime has refused to criminalize domestic violence, and its legal system often fails to proportionately punish violent crimes against women. Lacking social protections, women face normalized, rampant violence.
