NCRI – Necessity for UN probe & prosecution of perpetrators

The Piemonte provincial council in Italy issued its resolution 985 condemning the 1988 massacre of over 30,000 political prisoners in Iran.

– Recently details of this massacre and arbitrary and constant executions in Iran have shocked the society in Iran and the entire international community.

– In 2016 a sound file was made public in which Mr. Montazeri accused members of the “Death Commission” of crimes against humanity.

– Montazeri was immediately sacked from his post of being Khomeini’s successor.

“This is the gravest crime in the history of the Islamic republic. History will condemn us for this. Your names will be hacked in history alongside criminals,” he said.
– The international community has to this day largely neglected this crime against humanity.

– In 2008, 20 years after the massacre, Amnesty International re-issued a call for the persecution of those behind this massacre, adding they must be placed before competent international courts and prosecuted under the framework of judicial standards;

The resolution calls on the Italian government to:

– Firmly condemn the 1988 massacre of political prisoners in Iran;

– Emphasizes on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and the Human Rights Council, General Assembly and the Security Council to conduct the necessary investigation and prosecute the perpetrators of this crime against humanity.
