Another Disruption, Another Blow to Tehran’s Hollow Show of Power

On January 27, Iran’s state TV was disrupted, airing footage of opposition leaders

After decades of spreading misinformation, the mullahs’ hate speeches, and propaganda, Iran’s state-TV conveyed a message all Iranians yearn: “Death to (Ali) Khamenei,” the regime’s supreme leader. On February 10, citizens in Mashhad, northeast Iran, again heard the chants of “Death to Khamenei.”

On January 27, Iran’s state TV was disrupted, by Resistance Units and supporters of the Mujahedin-e Khalq (PMOI/MEK), airing footage of opposition leaders, Iranian Resistance leader Massoud Rajavi and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the Iranian opposition coalition National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI), in addition to slogans of “Death to Khamenei, Viva Rajavi.” Besides, crossed-out images of Khamenei were also shown on numerous state TV networks

Two weeks after, and despite utilizing all resources, the regime has not been able to repair the damage to its propaganda machine.

According to the MEK, “Based on Article 110 of the regime’s constitution, Khamenei, the regime’s supreme leader, oversees the state radio and television networks. After the interruption, he had ordered the channels and networks to be returned to normal before the “Fajr Decade” ceremonies (the ten days marking the anniversary of the 1979 revolution). However, the relevant departments have not been able to broadcast programs planned for the Fajr decade yet.”

The mullahs received yet another blow on the eve of the anniversary of Iran’s 1979 anti-monarchical revolution and amid the regime’s preparation for holding its anniversary “carnival” where it promises all sorts of free services to attract people and stage a “popular support.”

The public announcement system in Bazaar Reza, Mashhad’s main shopping center, was disrupted and broadcast the slogans, “Death to Khamenei, Hail to Rajavi,” “Death to the tyrant, whether the Shah or Supreme Leader,” and “Death to Khamenei, Damned be Khomeini, Hail to [opposition] MEK.”

It is worth noting that the major uprising in 2018 started in Mashhad and spread to cities across Iran.

The broadcast of “down with oppressor, whether the Shah or the Leader” once again highlights that while Iranians are yearning for regime change, they reject a return to the past. This slogan was first chanted by protesters in the nationwide November 2019 uprising and repeated in all major demonstrations since then.

In other words, the spirit of Iran’s 1979 revolution, whose leadership was usurped by the mullahs, lives on. In fact, The MEK’s Resistance Units have kept this spirit alive by their activities, such as the recent disruption, to crack the regime’s wall of repression. The MEK Resistance Units have held hundreds of activities across Iran by installing banners of Massoud Rajavi and Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and vowing to continue their efforts until achieving a free country.
